Importing the information block contents

  • This form (Content -> Information blocks -> Import) is used to import external data in an information block.

    Step 1. Data file

    Here you can choose the file whose contents is to be imported, and an information block to receive the imported data.

    Field Description
    Data file Click Browse to select a file containing data to be imported.
    Information block Choose an information block to which the data will be added.

    Step 2. Format

    Field Description
    Select data file format Choose the appropriate CSV file format:
    • delimited - fields in file are separated with a special symbol (e.g. comma or space);
    • fixed-width fields.
    The other options depend on your choice here.
    Delimited
    Field delimiter Choose a symbol which is the field separator in the source file.
    First row is a header Check this option if a first row in the file contains field names.
    Fixed-width fields
    Delimiters Type here ordinals of columns which are the field separators in the source file.
    First row is a header Check this option if a first row in the file contains field names.
    Data samples
    This field displays an extract from the source file.

    Click Next to proceed, or Back to return to the previous step .

    Step 3. Fields

    In this form you have to specify how the import procedure is to be performed.

    Field Description
    Assign file fields to database fields
    In this form you need to assign the source file fields to the target information block fields.
    Field Description
    File field The source file fields.
    Database field The fields of an information block to which the imported data will be added.

    Important!
    Be sure to select at least one of the fields: Unique identifier (B_IBLOCK_ELEMENT.XML_ID) or Name (B_IBLOCK_ELEMENT.NAME). These fields are used to match file fields to database fields.

    Important!
    Ensure that the field correspondence is set up correctly. Otherwise, importing may lead to unpredictable results.

    Additional settings
    Path to images To import elements containing images, upload images to any site folder via FTP prior to importing the CSV file. Then, specify the path to the folder in this field.
    Existing items not found in the file Defines how to treat information block elements which are currently in the database but not in the file:
    • Deactivate - these elements will become inactive;
    • Delete - elements will be deleted;
    • Keep - elements will be left as is.
    Existing inactive items/groups present in the file Select an action to perform on inactive elements and groups of an information block:
    • Leave as is - elements and groups will not be changed;
    • Activate - elements and groups will become available in the public section.
    Step execution time Duration of one execution step, in seconds. If 0, the import will be performed in a single step.
    Data samples
    This field displays an extract from the source file.

    To revert to the previous step, click Back. To start the import procedure, click Load data.

    Step 4. Result

    This screen displays the import results. You can click Back to first step if you want to import more data.
