Extranet

The Extranet is a ‘safe zone’ that provides areas in which users of your intranet can interact with external users. The extranet is a separate site, and does not provide access to the confidential information held in the intranet, and is available in the TeamPace and BizPace editions.

At the same time, the extranet does provide several important tools for collaboration in workgroups consisting of employees and non-employees, such as partners, clients, contractors, or others. These extranet users only have access to the workgroups to which they are members, and can only ‘see’ other users who are members of those workgroups. Thus, it would be perfectly safe to set up two separate workgroups where competing contractors interact with the employees involved. There is no limit to the number of workgroups which can be created, and ‘external’ users – who only belong to the ‘extranet users’ group, are not counted as users for licensing purposes.

Workgroups, which are exactly like those in the intranet side of the product, allow document sharing, messaging, business processes, tasking, calendaring, and other activities. The extranet also provides a front page where information, news, documents, forms, a helpdesk, and other useful resources may be made available to all users who have access to your organization’s intranet.
