Installation Guide

Preparing to install Bitrix Virtual Appliance VMware Edition

Download and install the VMware Player, it's free and compatible with both Windows and Linux operating systems.
Download and unpack the Bitrix Virtual Appliance on a hard drive.
Open the extracted Bitrix Virtual Appliance file using the VMware Player.
Go through the installation dialog windows and then restart the virtual server (see description for each step and screenshots below).
Open your web browser and enter the IP address received after the installation.
Launch the Bitrix software setup wizard, and you’re ready to go!

Installing and using the Bitrix Virtual Appliance VMware Edition

1.Open the unpacked Bitrix Virtual Appliance file in the VMware Player. The operating system will be loaded followed by the Apache2 web-server, the MySQL5 database, the XMPP server and everything else you need to use Bitrix products optimally. You can authorize yourself as "root" or "bitrix" (the password for both accounts is "bitrix"):

Root account (advanced mode): login: root password: bitrix (don’t forget to change!)
Bitrix account (standard mode): login: bitrix password: bitrix (don’t forget to change!)

2.In the next step, the operating system will be loaded, followed by the Apache2 web-server, the MySQL5 database, the XMPP server and everything else you need to use Bitrix products optimally. The server will get an IP address through DHCP. You’ll see the following dialog window where you can perform customization:

3.After the loading process is complete, you’ll see a screen with an IP address assigned to you. The server will get an IP address through DHCP. Use this IP address to open the Bitrix Virtual Appliance in a web browser. Now you can run it from your computer or from any other location!

Note: If you haven’t been assigned an IP address, the DHCP is not
properly setup on your network. Please, configure your DHCP settings.

4.Use this IP address to launch your Bitrix Virtual Appliance in a web browser. The welcome screen will ask you whether you want to create a new web site or to restore a project from a backup file:

5.If you choose to create a new web site, the next dialog window will ask you which of the Bitrix software products you want to install (Bitrix Intranet Portal or Bitrix Site Manager):

6.In the next step, the setup files will be uploaded from the Internet directly into your Bitrix Virtual Appliance. After uploading, the setup files will be automatically extracted and run.

7.Depending on what you have chosen, the setup wizard will guide you through the installation process of either Bitrix Intranet Portal or Bitrix Site Manager.

8.After the backup file has been restored (or a new web site has been installed), you will definitely notice greatly enhanced performance from using the Bitrix Virtual Appliance. Enjoy!

Fine Tuning Tips

Fine Tuning Tips for the Bitrix Virtual Appliance

If you want to use the Bitrix Virtual Appliance from your notebook and run it in other locations outside your office (e.g. while visiting your client), choose the Network Adapter > NAT on the Device tab in the VMware control panel. Then simply reset the Bitrix Virtual Appliance. It’s a very convenient service to use on a single computer:

System administrator operations in the Bitrix Virtual Appliance environment can be performed if logged in as "root", password is "bitrix". The Control Menu is UNIX-like and quite easy to understand:

To create a static IP address instead of DHCP, choose Configure Network on the Vmplayer startup screen and change the settings you need (incl. proxy server settings). If you have skipped this step, you can always return to the VMware startup screen by pressing Ctrl+C or by choosing the Quit Shell command (menu item "8") and then typing "exit" to logout.

If you are logged in as "root", you can start MC file manager to enjoy even faster performance of file operations. To start MC file manager, quit the shell by choosing menu item "8", type "mc" and then press Enter. To view the performance data use the "top" command.

If you’ve chosen to install the Bitrix Intranet Portal, it will be immediately ready for use. The Bitrix Intranet Portal will even allow you to send emails through its built-in SMPT server. You may wish to setup an SMTP gateway through which emails can be routed within your company. Also, the XMPP/Jabber server is setup and ready to use for instant messaging. If you use an IM application (ICQ, Miranda, etc.) and wish to link it to the IP address assigned by the server, choose port 5222, where your server is already running.
